AllWinnersVolunteer & Corporate Volunteer of the Year Awards

The awards for Volunteer of the Year and Corporate Volunteer of the Year are presented at the IVD Celebration Breakfast. The Grande Prairie Volunteer Services Bureau launched the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2009. This award honours an extraordinary resident of the Grande Prairie region whose volunteer contributions in the most recent twelve month period made a considerable impact within the community.  In 2013 we added the Corporate Volunteer of the Year Award to recognize a company or business that, through its staff and policies supporting volunteerism, and made an impact on a not-for-profit organization in the last twelve months.  The awards are handed out at the International Volunteer Day Celebration Breakfast.

PartyInternational Volunteer Day Celebration Breakfast

The United Nations General Assembly created International Volunteer Day (IVD) in 1985 as an annual celebration of voluntary action for volunteers, volunteer organizations and governments.  In honour of this the Volunteer Services Bureau hosts the IVD Celebration Breakfast on December 5th each year where community volunteers, volunteer involving organizations, and volunteer supporters come together in recognition of the significant contributions volunteers make throughout the world. In years when December 5th falls on a weekend, the Celebration Breakfast will be held on the Friday prior to the weekend.

The Leaders of Tomorrow Awards are presented at the Annual Volunteers Appreciation Luncheon, and is held in order to recognize students who made outstanding contributions to their communities through volunteerism. By recognizing these exceptional volunteers the Leaders of Tomorrow Awards hope to inspire other students to follow their example to the benefit of the region.  ATCO has been a sponsor of the awards since 2001 and in 2013 became the Presenting Sponsor.
