The Grande Prairie Friendship Centre (GPFC) is excited to offer new volunteer roles to the community of Grande Prairie! Join our team as a Community Kitchen Assistant and play a pivotal role in providing nutritious meals to individuals and families in need. Your dedication to meal preparation, cleanliness, and teamwork will make a significant impact on our community, ensuring that no one goes hungry.
Training Details
1. Meal Preparation:
Assist with meal planning and preparation under the guidance of our kitchen staff.
Follow recipes and portion control guidelines to ensure consistent quality and quantity of meals.
Handle food safely, including chopping, peeling, and cooking ingredients.
2. Food Service:
Help serve meals to community members with respect and dignity.
Ensure that meals are presented attractively and in an organized manner.
Accommodate dietary restrictions and preferences as needed.
3. Cleanliness and Sanitation:
Maintain a clean and sanitized kitchen environment.
Wash dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment promptly.
Follow proper food safety and hygiene protocols to prevent contamination.
4. Inventory Management:
Assist in checking and organizing food inventory.
Notify kitchen staff when supplies are running low to avoid shortages.
Label and date food items for proper rotation.
5. Team Collaboration:
Work cooperatively with kitchen staff and fellow volunteers.
Communicate effectively to ensure smooth meal preparation and service.
Be flexible and willing to take on different roles as needed.
Qualifications:
A passion for community service and helping those in need.
Basic cooking skills or a willingness to learn.
Attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a positive attitude.
Flexibility to adapt to changing kitchen needs and schedules.
Understanding of food safety practices (training can be provided).
