2018 National Volunteer Week Annual Appreciation Luncheon featuring the Leaders of Tomorrow Awards presented by ATCO

The Grande Prairie Volunteer Service Bureau (GPVSB) celebrated National Volunteer Week (April 15-21) on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 with our Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon held at Revolution Place. The GPVSB was joined by presenting sponsor ATCO, Special Guest Alex Zahara, our Member Agencies, area students and community members from Grande Prairie & Area to celebrate and thank the Volunteers of our communities; whose dedication and efforts make the world a better place and make it possible for so many great things we take for granted to happen.

The GPVSB was excited to have Special Guest Alex Zahara return home to the Peace Country and speak at this year’s Luncheon. Mr. Zahara has been in the TV & Film Industry for over 20 years and has over 130 screen credits. Alex currently stars in the new movie Aliens Ate My Homework & has played roles in; Riverdale, The Man from High Castle, Once Upon a Time, Stargate SG1, Lonesome Dove Church, Horns, Gundam00 & many more. Thank you Alex for attending this year’s luncheon.

The Luncheon featured the prestigious Leaders of Tomorrow Awards presented by ATCO, honouring outstanding young Leaders in Grande Prairie and the surrounding area. The awards were presented to individuals in two categories: Ages 13-15 & Ages 16-18. Recipients received Leaders of Tomorrow Awards trophy, a certificate, cash award of $100, and a $100 donation to the charity of their choice.

  • Caleigh Gillis nominated by Mother Teresa Leadership Team. Caleigh’s Charity of choice is Grande Prairie Bandaged Paws
  • Taylor Kimpe-Miller nominated by North Peace Bracket Racing Association. Taylor’s Charity of choice is Kids with Cancer Society
  • Talia Peters nominated by Mother Teresa Leadership Team. Talia’s Charity of choice is Kev’s Kids Society
Ages 16-18
  • Revenelle Gladue nominated by John Howard Society of Grande Prairie. Revenelle’s Charity of Choice is Society for Support to Pregnant & Parenting Teens
  • Kiera Kruger nominated by Lucille Partington. Kiera’s Charity of Choice is Suicide Prevention Resource Centre.
  • Sophie Leslie nominated by Charles Spencer High School Maverick Movement. Sophie’s Charity of Choice is Foundation Glycosylation
  • Heather Taylor nominated by Joanna Hotte. Heather’s Charity of Choice is KidSport - Grande Prairie.

For the second year the luncheon also hosted The Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. This Award recognizes all of the amazing things young people can do and encourage learning outside the boundaries of formal education, the Award empowers them to discover hidden talents, develop untapped leadership potential, make a difference in their community and explore the wonders of the great outdoors.
