A dynamic and responsive foundation that supports enhanced learning opportunities for Grande Prairie Public School District students.

Laura LaValley, Executive DirectorFounded in 1991 the Education Foundation, a registered, non-profit charity, exist to enhance educational opportunities for students in the Grande Prairie Public School District #2357 (GPPSD), with their mission to provide grants, scholarships, recognition and to support students in striving for excellence. As the third oldest Education Foundation in the province, it was designed to; complement basic education services within the City of Grande Prairie's public schools. The Foundation works to provide resources to students in our 18 public schools not provided by traditional government funding giving to school boards.  Executive Director Laura LaValley explains the Foundations objective best as “the community’s opportunity to put additional funds into these schools for programs and projects that can often enrich classrooms and give students the chance to achieve their educational goals. We help fill the gaps traditional school funding cannot.”

The Education Foundation has a number of initiatives to support students in our community, which include;

  • The Nutrition & Wellness Program that helps students in need access healthy meals and snacks so they can focus on their social and academic development. This program currently operates at 3 public schools located in areas with high population of low to mid income families.
  • The Annual Striving for Excellence Awards Dinner is held every October to recognize and celebrate exceptional students in academic and leadership excellence. Scholarships are also presented to students at this event.
  • The Foundation offers numerous Scholarships to graduating public school students such as the Career Technology Studies Scholarships in Communications, Automotive, Design, and Cosmetology, as well as scholarships for academic and leadership achievements. They awarded 13 scholarships last year. Graduating students can apply though their high school or go to for more information.
  • The School Grant Program offers public schools the opportunity to apply for special funding, applications are accepted each year from September to November. The Foundation’s Board of Directors reviews the applications and distributes the grants based on the school’s needs and criteria. These grants have been used for musical instruments, sport equipment, field trips and to assist special need students.

Volunteers help the organization in fundraising as the Foundation is active in selling tickets for Cars for Christmas, Cash & Camping, Dream Home Lottery and other charity events.  Volunteers are recognized for their efforts with thanks and the knowledge they are helping the community’s future growth and development.  Anyone wishing to volunteer with, donate, or learn more about the Grande Prairie Public School Division Education Foundation can contact Laura LaValley at 780-532-4491 Ext. # 1006 or go to their website or their Facebook page
