Brenda Woodman - Nominated By Alberta Works

CIABrendaBrenda works closely with Alberta Works, and for the last 2 years has been integral in the delivery of their Free Volunteer Income Tax Program that is organized by Canada Revenue Agency, to provide an important service that helps individuals with modest income and a simple tax situations to file their tax return.  After taxes are completed, this allows community members to access the government benefits they are entitled to,and different community organizations that can further assist their needs. She has run similar programs with other non-profit organizations over the years.

Brenda works hard to complete taxes for free to low income Albertans within the Grande Prairie community, having completed nearly 600 returns this year alone. Brenda is always there to help in any way she can, even going to meet clients who can’t come to the Alberta Works Centre at the Town Centre Mall due to illness or other issues.

Brenda has been a major asset to this program and the Alberta Works team, she loves working with the Alberta Works staff and describes them as “unbelievable and caring people that provide vital services to the community.”

Brenda sees this program as an essential need to the community and hopes to provide clinics in the future to help people learn how to file their own tax returns.  She also hopes as the program continues to grow that public awareness will increase as well. She is surprised that “so many people who need this support don’t know this program exists and will go elsewhere and pay for their taxes to be completed. Brenda encourages people to spread the word and for those who are eligible to use the Alberta Works Volunteer Tax Program to have their taxes done for free.
