Discover Infinite Potential
The Grande Prairie Regional Association of Volunteer Organizations is proud to partner with the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Canada – Alberta, Northwest Territories & Nunavut Division in becoming an Open Award Centre. The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (also referred to as ‘the Award’ or the ‘Duke of Ed’) is the world’s leading non-formal education and achievement award for young people. It is voluntary, non-competitive and available to anyone aged 14–24. The Award is about individual challenge and commitment. Young people design their own Award programme, set their own goals and record their own progress. They choose a Service, Physical Recreation, Skills activity, go on an Adventurous Journey and, to achieve a Gold Award, take part in a Residential Project. The only person they compete against is themselves, by challenging their own beliefs about what they can achieve. For more information on the Award visit www.dukeofed.org/ab.
Our role as an Open Award Centre (OAC) will allow the Award to be available to area youths. OAC’s are designed to enhance and support the local club, youth group and/or school-based Award Units, as well as fill any gaps that may exist in making the Award accessible to youth.
