Description

The Grande Prairie Friendship Centre is looking for community members to join our Babies' Best Start program as a dedicated volunteer! This is a great way to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children and their families. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including sorting donations, general cleaning, and providing one-on-one support to children. Your contribution will help create a nurturing and culturally sensitive environment.

Training Details

1. Sorting Donations:
Sort and organize incoming donations, including toys, clothing, formula, and other essentials.
Ensure donations are appropriately categorized and stored for easy distribution.
Maintain a clean and organized sorting area.

2. General Cleaning:
Assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment for children and families.
Clean and sanitize play areas, restrooms, and common spaces.
Restock supplies as needed.

3. One-on-One Interaction with Children:
Engage in one-on-one activities with children, promoting their development and well-being.
Support children in their learning, play, and cultural activities.
Be a positive role model and provide emotional support when needed.

4. Cultural Sensitivity:
Respect and promote Indigenous culture and traditions.
Be sensitive to the unique needs and perspectives of Indigenous children and families.
Participate in cultural activities and events as appropriate.

5. Team Collaboration:
Collaborate with fellow volunteers and program staff to ensure a supportive and welcoming atmosphere.
Be flexible and willing to assist in various tasks as needed.

Qualifications:
Passion for working with children.
Compassion, empathy, and cultural sensitivity.
Ability to maintain a respectful and non-judgmental attitude.
Basic cleaning and organizational skills.
Vulnerable sector check (required for working with children).
Patience and adaptability in a dynamic child care environment.
