Description

The IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s raises funds and awareness for Alzheimer's disease and other dementias in communities across Canada. As a volunteer, you will join thousands of Canadians in making a difference and supporting those living with dementia and their care partners to access support and information about dementia and improving quality of life.

Our Mission: The Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories brings awareness to Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias; helps alleviate the personal and social consequences of the disease; provides education and support programs; and promotes and funds research into the cause, prevention and cure.

Our Values: CARE: Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Empathy

Position Purpose:

In support of the Alzheimer Society of Alberta & Northwest Territories’ (AS ABNT) annual IG Walk for Alzheimer’s there are several volunteer roles to be fulfilled on the day of the walk in each host community. The tasks and responsibilities completed ensure a successful event to raise both funds and awareness for AS ABNT’s local programs and services.

Walk Volunteer Roles:

Tasks for each Walk Volunteer are delegated to best utilize each volunteers’ individual strengths, skills, and interests, as well as ensuring that there are enough volunteers for all. Volunteers may start with being assigned one role and then be reassigned later in the event. Some of the roles of the Walk include, but are not limited to:

  • Registration Desk Volunteers: These volunteers manage the registration desk, assisting participants with check-in and registration. They also handle any necessary paperwork and provide participants with essential information about the Walk.
  • Walk Route Volunteers: These volunteers assist along the walk route, providing directions, ensuring participant safety, and offering encouragement to walkers.
  • Refreshment Volunteers: These volunteers manage the refreshment areas, providing water and snacks to participants.
  • Set-Up and Tear-Down Volunteers: These volunteers assist with setting up before the event and tearing down after the event. This could include setting up tables and chairs, hanging banners, and cleaning up the venue.
  • T-Shirt Distribution Volunteers: These volunteers manage the distribution of T-shirts to participants, ensuring that participants receive the right sizes and colors.
  • First Aid Station Volunteers: These volunteers are available to provide basic First Aid in the event of illness or injury at the Walk. *Proof of valid Standard First Aid is required for this role.
